7 Characteristics Of A Leader
To be born a leader is an expression that can suffer some debate. Of course, being in a leading position requires a set of abilities. But it is not very clear if these characteristics are native or they can be developed through skill and experience. These traits are discussed below.
Seven Characteristics That Make For A Good Leader
1. Trustworthy. A true leader cannot exist if he or she does not get to win the trust of others. Integrity and honesty are character traits that make that person remarkable and, in their absence, people would not feel they must follow the leader. A good leader practices what he or she preaches earning the right to lead others and have responsibility for them. Trustworthiness is the source of the real authority, based on the trust of other people.
2. Enthusiastic. Enthusiasm must not be forgotten when talking about a great leader. A true leader inspires those around him with his passion and dedication. By showing them how is done, by having confidence and determination, the leader will make the team work towards the desired goal. Also, a real leader should not be scared to perform hard work, offering a good example to his or her workers.
3. Confident. A true leader must exude confidence in his role and position towards others. The result will be a trustful team that looks up to the leader, following his or her orders and performing the tasks well. The team members will be highly motivated to do a good job when the leader is confident in his or her powers and theirs, at the same time.
4. Orderly. Some situations may require other attitudes from the leader. In times of uncertainty and stress, the leader must prove to be orderly and able to work towards the final purpose. This will give a feeling of reassurance and security to the team, which expects confidence and a positive demeanor from their leader.
5. Calm. Many challenges may rise along the way and the leader must treat them equally, inspiring others to not be let bad influences overcome them. Any crises, any emotions must find the leader calm, composed and steadfast to the main purpose. The one that succeeds to keep a cool head in times of need is a great leader.
6. Ability to think analytically. A problem has many facets that need to be dealt with. A good leader will keep the main goal in focus but is able to analyse the matter, by breaking it into parts meant to be inspected. An analytic mind is needed when progress must be made by dealing with every step in particular.
7. Ambitious. Any good leader should not settle for the second place. Success is a matter of who wins the top. A true leader will always have high standards and he or she will strive for excellence in every aspect.
The seven qualities described above are essential for a good leader. They can be personal native traits but they can also be developed and strengthened. But, whether these characteristics are natural or developed, a great leader will always work to make the best of these traits and to achieve excellence.
